Servers have gone down for a short maintenance, so I guess it’s time to catch everyone up on WildStar Day 2. I’m definitely getting more used to playing and how things work, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t still getting frustrated over little things. I’m definitely enjoying myself, don’t get me wrong, but the acclamation is happening slowly. I also was pretty dismayed when I realized that the class I had chosen was definitely NOT the best healing class. I essentially picked the Sorc of WildStar, including their version of Force Barrier. It sucks too… But, when I heal paper lanterns, balloons, and butterflies appear, which is way better than purple stuff.
About 85% of my time was PvPing today. Chyms decided he didn’t like playing his warrior and wanted to reroll a Spellslinger, so the option was quest alone or PvP. Obvious choice. I only did a few games before he was level 6, which is the bottom level for the lowbie bracket, but unfortunately I just hit 15 and now am moving into the middle bracket. Now I have to wait for him to catch up again.
To be honest, I don’t want to quest anyways. Since I only have 6 action slots unlocked, in order to solo quest I would have to redo my useable abilities and bars before and after each warzone. It only takes about 15 seconds, but it really ticks me off. I love being able to knock out a quest or kill some mobs between pops, but I literally can’t unless I want to repeat that process every time. What gets me the most steamed up is that they have a quick switch built into the game already, I’m just not high enough level to use it. I mean, why are they punishing low level characters? I feel at low levels is when you need the ability to switch between DPS and healing quickly, since you don’t have enough of anything to really get stuff done. You have to DPS and heal to beat some of those quest mobs, especially if you’re going at it alone.
(To populate your action bars you chose from your various Ability tabs. Assault is DPS and Support is healing. Utility has stuns, defensive cool downs, and group abilities. )
But, PvP is definitely fun. I scored 4 Moodie Masks today, and one of those was stolen, so I’m feeling pretty good about that. I finally got my first instant heal as well, so I can walk and heal at the same time. I’ve been putting out some good numbers, and I’m usually the top healer. Medics are REALLY strong though, and far more mobile, so I’m a little bummed I didn’t play that first. Other classes I think are strong are Stalkers and Spellslingers. You can get locked down pretty well by a Stalker, and if two open on you you’re screwed. There isn’t anything like resolve in the game, so being perma-stunned, rooted, and tethered can happen. You can get out of stuns by pressing a key thats prompted on the screen, but it doesn’t always happen or work. Another one of the “shitty console mechanics” as I’ve started to call them. It’s right there with the Sprint i complained about yesterday. The little prompt gets frozen there sometimes too, and you have to Esc to clear it. Annoying when you’re in a giant group fight. The Blind in game is awesome though, because you’re actually blinded. Black stuff overtakes your screen and you can only see a tiny slit in front of you. Maybe I should call that a “cool console mechanic!”
Other than not being able to ability switch, my big complaint from today is something that happens when you are vendoring items. I like to organize my bags so that things I want to sell are at the bottom and thing I want to keep are at the top. When you go to a vendor and start selling, a little box pops up after every time. Not a bad thing, until you realize it does so on top of your inventory list. On top of the next thing you want to sell. I know that I get annoyed easily. but its just another of the super inefficient aspects of the game which get me all ragey. I don’t want to spend time vendoring, I just want my credits please. My bags are super small and having to pause in between items is a waste of time. How did no one say during development or Beta, “Hey, maybe we should put this box somewhere else?” I guess there is an addon to fix that, but I have a fundamental issue with getting it. Why can’t it just be a part of the game that vendoring isn’t silly?
My goal tomorrow is to hit 18 on my Esper and get some dungeons in. I can’t wait to try the PvE out and finally have an opinion of my own on the difficulty. I’ve heard different things about how hard they are, so it’s a need to know. Hopefully I can do well and get a better feel on whether the game it for me or not. I can’t wait!
